The ekrn.exe is not a Windows system file, but is a process which belongs to the software ESET NOD32 Antivirus and the ESET Smart Security Suite Kernel Service. It runs as a service and is the central component for both the NOD32 antivirus and Smart Security suite. Whenever you open, save, update or download a file, Ekrn.exe will help you to scan those files. It locates in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files". The most common size of the file on Windows XP is 224 bytes. You may also find it in 472,320 and 455,936 bytes. |

| Eset is the best there is available at this time. I suggest if your having issues that something ELSE is wrong with your pc, even the older ones run fine with the new eset. I am writing this on a 6 year old HP laptop that runs smooth as pie on Eset. So does my 7 year old tower. | |||

| Has worked fine for some time, but of late it has been hogging my resources. Boot is fine, but I have to leave my computer for about 30 mins for ekrn to stop screwing with my memory. After that, it works great. | |||

| Sounds like a lot of these posters are having real problems with ESET, and the other half work for the ESET sales department. I have a pretty high-end machine and I do now the correct way to set it up, and ESET just hammers the disks for twenty minutes when I start up. | |||

| ekrn.exe while idle it uses 60MB. While it scanning it takes <70MB. Take avast it only gain 6MB while idle. In scan 50-60MB. | |||
