Keep, it on at startup if your likely to forget to update, but like Google Drive it uses a lot of disk activity at start-up even if theres nothing to update, you can easily disable and keep the icon on your desktop as a reminded to occasionly update when your PC isn't so busy.

Dropbox is most useful when the files synchronize automatically; this program must be running to do that.
