My wireless Logitech keyboard Y-RBN90 includes a convenient volume control. If SetPoint.exe isn't running, the volume control doesn't work. However, the letters, numbers, and media buttons continue working. Setpoint also provides the adjustments for keyboard and mouse settings, and if you wave your mouse over the Setpoint systray-icon, it will tell you what wireless things are connected to the Logitech USB transceiver, and also what condition the batteries are in your devices. Without Setpoint, you still have a basic keyboard. If you want to stop SetPoint, uninstalling it would make more sense than disabling it. SetPoint opens a window that you have to acknowledge on every boot up, which is an easy click, but I can understand wanting to make that go away. Weigh the needs. SetPoint also "phones home" on every boot up, ostensibly to check for updates. That's behavior close-to-spyware. A Logitech-Update program opens to check for updates and then closes itself, activated by Setpoint opening. You can have Setpoint working, but disable the phone-home program. Go into C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\LogiShrd\\sp6, and change the extension of any file with the name "Update" in it from .exe to ".exe-old". But then when SetPoint starts at every reboot, aside from having to close its adjustments window, now you'll also have to acknowledge its complaint that it can't find the Update program. Logitech could have done better than making our computers call into their servers every time we start our computers. Since I love my remote volume control which controls the main output volume, my choice is to allow SetPoint to run, but disable the Update programs -- better than alerting Logitech every time I boot up. And besides, it doesn't need updating (and "reporting in"), 10 years after its manufacture. SetPoint seems to use 36 MB of Ram on Win7. It's hard to recognize any CPU usage.
